Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Sun Wrangler has been formulated without Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Parabens and a long list of other ingredients that we do not support.

The term "reef safe" has become increasingly popular in the marketing of sunscreens, yet it lacks clear regulatory definition. Many sunscreens labeled as "reef safe" contain ingredients that have not been thoroughly tested for their effects on coral reefs and marine life. Sun Wrangler has been tested and proven safe for freshwater fish, saltwater fish, and even coral larvae.

We acknowledge that no product can be 100% harmless to the environment. Instead, we commit to minimizing our impact as much as possible by carefully selecting ingredients/thoroughly tested formulas and ensuring that our packaging and production processes align with eco-friendly principles.

Approved sunscreen ingredients come in two forms, mineral and chemical filters. They work differently to protect your skin from UV rays.

Sun Wrangler is a mineral sunscreen. Our zinc oxide formula works by reflecting and scattering the UV light away from your skin.

Chemical sunscreens include ingredients like methoxycinnamate, oxybenzone and avobenzone. They work by absorbing into your skin and absorbing the UV rays. Besides the toxicity that has been associated with many chemical sunscreens, we simply can't get behind the idea of putting something on your body to absorb something that we don’t want on or in our bodies in the first place.

Sun Wrangler is a broad spectrum sunscreen.

A sunscreen needs to reflect (mineral) or absorb (chemical) at least 90% of UV rays to be considered broad spectrum.

If your sunscreen is not broad spectrum, it may only protect you from UVB rays that cause sunburn. However, UVA rays penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin causing wrinkles and premature aging, as well as damage at the cellular level. It is important to protect yourself from both UVB and UVA rays.

Sun Wrangler's formula exceeds the FDA’s requirements for broad-spectrum claims, wrangling both UVB and UVA rays.

Zinc Oxide (Sunscreen Active) is a naturally occurring mineral used for its high UVA and UVB light reflection capabilities.

EcoSafe Zinc™ is non-nano, naturally-coated, USP grade and Cosmos certified. The Sun Wrangler EcoSafe Zinc™ formula has passed rigorous aquatic safety testing.

Sun Wrangler uses sugarcane resin tubes as a viable alternative to traditional PET plastic tubes. They are made from the pulp after the sugar juices have been expelled. This pulp, once treated as a waste product and burned, can now be utilized as a valuable product which reduces our greenhouse emissions.

Like ethanol made from corn, the pulp is fermented and distilled. The ethanol is then dehydrated to create ethylene, which is then converted into polyethylene, a bio-based material. This material is identical to traditional petrochemical-based plastics — except for the carbon footprint that went into making it. The texture, durability, weight, appearance and shelf life are exactly the same.

Sun Wrangler's sugarcane resin tubes are 100% recyclable and leave a low carbon footprint.s
